END OF SEMESTER

I have learned a lot of things in this class that will help me later on in my classes and when I become a teacher.
The first thing that i learned was creating and posting blogs.
2. making a power point presentation
3. making a tri-fold brochure
4. The best thing about this class was developing a website. This was one of the most hardest assignment in this class. It was a lot of fun creating this website and very enjoyable. I learned how to add tags to my pictures. Before I took this class I had never heard of things like Picasa, making a iGoogle page, and making a Google spreadsheet etc. .
Another nice thing about this class, is Dr. Strange will make a instructional video that explains everything that he has gone over in class. These videos have allowed me to complete my website, tri-fold brochure, and finish my spreadsheets. I have really enjoyed this class, even though Dr.Strange made it a little hard to keep up in class, but the videos make it so much easier to keep up.

" WILKIPEDIA"

This semester I am taking English 102, and the first day of class my professor said that "Wilkipedia" could not be used in any of papers as a documented source. Wilkipedia is not a reliable source and can be edited by anyone. There have been alot of problems with people changing information with some major companies such as Wal-mart and Diebold. I could not find any reason that wilkipedia could be trusted. Whenever I am going online to research a particular topic for English class "wilkipedia" is usually the first site that pops up. I don't think users should be allowed to go onto this site and change any information with this site.

GROWTH VS. FIXED MINDSET IN LEARNING

Carol Dweck, Professor of Psychology said that " some students have a fixed mindset and believed that their basic intelligence is just a fixed trait". Most students wonder if they are going to be smart or if they will look smart to other students. Carol Dweck, developed a eight section course workshop that split students up into two groups ( a study skill) and ( fixed mindset) workshop group. "Brainology" in New York , fixed mindset students nose dived, and growth mindset students were able to soar. Dweck believed that the brain is like a muscle it grows as we learn new information and store it. After the eight section work shop teachers were able to pick out students were in the growth mindset workshop without knowing which students were in that section.

As a teacher, I think it is very important that we motivate students to learn and that the brain does grow as it learns new information.

Teacher's Domain

I remember when I was in elementary and middle school, whenever we had to watch any type of educational video it was usually on a film strip projector with a video recorder on the side of it playing the voices from the film strips Today Technology has come a long way. We are able to watch educational videos right from the computer.

Educational videos today are much more interesting and exciting. I think school age children would be more likely to watch them now opposed to when I was in school. As a teacher you could use these videos for almost any subject that you are teaching. I think science has the most benefits.

The video that I watch was titled " Mirror Neurons". In this video it explained how mirror neurons are located on either side of the brain. Mirror neurons were first discovered at the University of Parma in Italy. They discovered mirror neurons by studying a monkey and observing how mirror neurons were fired just by a monkey doing something and also by seeing that same object. That the monkey brain waves were exactly the same. Mirror neurons can send messages to the brain for us feel emotion, this is a big part of makes us humans. Why people cry at movies or react at sport events are triggered by mirror neurons in the brain.

ITune University

Apple recently created a new program called iTune University which allows free downloads of professors lecture notes. There are several University that are currently using the program which are Duke University, Arizona University and Stanford. The great thing about listening to your notes on ipods is that you can listen on the go. "Students can sync iTunes U with any iPod or iPhone". iTune University is avaliable for downloads 24/7 from many Universities. This is very benefical to students who can study by listening to lectures notes over and over again.

iPODS

iPods are a very popular device, I use my for listening to music only. I now realize that ipods can been used for several different things. Most schools K-12 and higher education, are now using ipods in education.

iowa School district is planning to use ipods for standardized testings. Special-Education students will use the ipods to allow them to work on their test at different rates. website (www.tuaw.com/2007/02/28iowa-school-district-to-use-ipods-for-standardized-testing.

Duke University reported that the use of ipods increased with students and faculty. It is rated most favorable with students and faculty. Duke university developed five major categories in which the ipod was recommed for. Classroom recording ( taking lecture notes, verbal feedback), Field Recording (Interviews), Study Support Tool (sutdying for tests and listening to audio books).

Now, that i know that ipods have a different use other than listening to music, i can incorporate it in my learning.

( CUSTOMER SERVICE) week 7

I really enjoyed reading this post on customer service. I have never really thought about it before until now but no matter what job you are doing you are still providing customer service. When teachers are in a class room they are providing a service in teaching students and making sure that they are given a good education. Customer service is important and whatever service you are providing you should make sure that you give the best service possible.

WEEK 6

I agree with the author, that principles and teachers should be up to date with all the latest technology that is available now. Many students today are well advanced with the technology, and it is important that teachers are on the sames level with students.
Technology is moving in a different direction now and no matter what job, or school you are working at you have to move at the same pace with technology.

WEEK 5

ICTLEONELA.UNIDAD EDUCATIVA ANDRES BELLO. Website is Http://mccyeareight.learnblog.org/. This blog website is much like what we use. The only difference is it is in a different language. The students sign on to their blog accounts and are assigned different activities that are completed through blog.

WEEK 5

BLOGGING IN VENEZUELUN MUNICIPAL SCHOOLS.
http://the-ve-blogsopt.com/2006/12/blog-project-british-council-andchacols.html
In Venezuelun Municipal schools teachers post lesson plans on the blog website, then students log on to their blogger accounts and complete assignments and write comments about what they have learned. International teachers have noticed when students become involved in using blog that they were more engaged in learning, were aware of what they were leraning and are allowed to work at their own pace.

WEEK 4

MR.C's Blog 5th grade
Mr.C's has posted a blog on a science experiment, each student has to watch the movie blog, then create a blog answering the teacher's discussion questions. Students are awarded stars for posting the best blogs.Mr.C post blogs about his weekends and in turn the students must write a blog about what they did over their weekend.

Week 4

The first Classroom blog that I found was Richard Elmentary School in Whitefish Bay, Winscon 4 grade. The classroom blog website is Http://marykreul.teacherhosting.com/blog. The classsroom blog offers parents and students detailed information on what the studnets have learned and what they are covering in class currently. Each student is given the opporunity to write a blog about their favorite subject such as Social Studies, Science, Reading and Math. Students are also given assigment that allow them to imagine different things and then write about it. Parents are allowed to check homework on the classroom blog. I think that is a very good ideal because it involves the parent and student and helps them learn how to use a computer.

ACCESS

ACCESS- Allows Alabama High School Students to enroll in Advanced Distanced learning courses at no charge. The courses offered by ACCESS include English, Social Studies,Psychology, AP Calculus, Physics, Spanish, French etc.. ACCESS is very beneficial for those students living in low income school districts who offer limited courses for students. Currently their are "194 schools, and 7289 students" participating in this program. ACCESS distance learning courses are taught using the IVC " interactive videoconferencing" method of delivery.
ACCESS allows teachers to "expand their teaching knowledge". Teachers are able to teach across the state with the use of technology. Teachers are required to take and pass a backgroung check.

ALEX IN THE CLASSROOM

I think using ALEX in my classroom would be very helpful, especially since I would be new a teacher. It offers a guide to a detailed lesson plan for each subject. I would use many of the websites that are offered for additional learning resources.

ALEX

The ALEX" Alabama Learning Exchange" is a very important website offered to teachers. This website gives an array of different subjects and how to create lessons plans. Establishing an ALEX account allows " teachers to create a personal workspace for storing and submitting lessons plans and web pages". ALEX is also neat because it offers teachers web links to authors and stories that are available on the web( for example: children's literature Web guide http://www.acs.ucalgarycal^dkbrown). It also gives a list of appropriate books for students. The distance learning offered through ALEX is also neat because those schools with limited courses, can enroll in the distance learning program. The site keeps teachers updated with all the latest news and "professional development opportunities".

The Fisch Bowl Presentation

The presentation made by Karl Fisch, in my opinion was excellent.I really enjoyed the presentation, that was first developed for a school of 150 teachers to help with the improvement of teaching students, but now has been viewed by over 600,000 people. Technology has really changed since the early 80's and has given everyone an opportunity to advance as technology improves on the jobs in education. I was amazed to find out that just a little over ten years ago many people have made the Internet a way of life. The advancement of technology has made learning a lot easier and simpler.
